A Love Letter to the Planet We Keep Ghosting

A Love Letter to the Planet We Keep Ghosting

Dear Earth,

We know you’re tired.
Tired of our shenanigans.
Tired of being treated like a 30-day free trial.
Tired of the microplastics, the mega-messes, and the macro-ego of humanity thinking we’re the main character.

You deserved better.

You gave us sunsets, waterfalls, sea turtles, mangoes, redwoods, and the smell of rain hitting dirt—and in return, we gave you gaslighting. (And not the metaphorical kind. The literal, atmosphere-eroding kind.)

And yet… somehow… you're still here. Barely. Bruised. But showing up. Like the single mom of the solar system.

Here’s the thing:
We could write another blog full of bullet points about “10 Ways to Be More Sustainable” (spoiler: they all start with “stop buying crap”). But instead, we’re going to tell the truth.

Most of us want to do better—we just feel overwhelmed, exhausted, broke, or unsure if it even matters.

So today, on this complicated little holiday we’ve all agreed to call Earth Day, we’re doing something radical: We’re inviting imperfection.

Yes. Really. This year, we’re honoring Earth by choosing one small thing we can actually stick with. Not because it’s trendy. Not because it’ll go viral.
Because it matters. And because small actions, when multiplied by millions of overwhelmed humans doing their best, are how change actually happens.

So whether your “thing” is switching to bar soap, carrying a reusable tote, walking more, boycotting fast fashion, or simply remembering to turn the damn lights off—you’re doing something. And that counts.

Because here’s the plot twist nobody wants to say out loud: Earth isn’t asking for perfection. She’s asking for presence.

More attention. More gratitude. More of us realizing that we are not separate from her—we are her.

And if that realization comes with a side of compostable wine cups and a slow, clumsy attempt to plant something that may or may not survive…Well then, Earth is probably smiling.

Or she would be, if we hadn't melted half her ice caps.

With muddy boots and hopeful hearts,

— The Commons Dispatch
